The Mini-moon

When you can't get away right after the wedding

Sometimes, heading off on your honeymoon is something that is just not possible for some of our couples immediately following their wedding. For those of you out there who are planning that awesome honeymoon a few months after the wedding, I think it is important to sneak away for a couple of days with each other, even if it is somewhere in our extended local San Francisco Bay Area. There are so many driving distance options, it makes it easy to make the getaway just as romantic as a trip to the islands.

A long time favorite of mine is the town of Mendocino. Heading up Highway 1 where 128 hits the coast and Navarro Beach. You can either stay in town or rent a house for a couple days where you can get very cozy. To me it is a tranquil and a wonderful escape. Wine tasting in Anderson Valley is just about 30 minutes from the coast and a hidden gem when it comes to wonderful wineries not yet as discovered as in Napa and Sonoma. Anderson Valley Brewing Company is another fun place to visit in the area.
About two and a half hours south of San Francisco (give or take depending if you stop to get some fresh produce along the road) is the Monterey Bay, where Carmel, Monterey and Pebble Beach are all great mini escape locations. Take your pick, but all are wonderful towns that you can easily walk around and enjoy an easy day including food, wine, and maybe some antiquing. Kathryn and I had the pleasure of staying at the Casa Palmero a couple months ago, and she is actually having her own minimoon there after her wedding this winter. It is a wonderful escape from reality and perfect for a two or three night stay after your big day.
Another option is Santa Barbara, which is about a six and a half hour drive from San Francisco. There are towns even closer along Highway 101, like San Luis Obispo, Pismo Beach and the cutest town ever, Solvang. If you do happen to make it all the way down to Santa Barbara, shacking up in a lovely resort like the Bacara will truly allow you to relax and enjoy your first few days as husband and wife. You can then tour the wineries in the Santa Ynez Mountains, enjoy the beaches along their beautiful coastline, and catch a concert at the Santa Barbara Bowl. Don't forget to take a little day trip to Summerland!
Whatever your plans are, enjoy every minute of it! If you have any other great mini-moon stories or plans, please share them, we love to hear your comments!

Cheers,

  Brittani
